RIYADH, (AA,, Arab News): Twenty five people lost their lives and 119 others were injured late Wednesday when a fire broke out in southwestern Saudi Arabia, the country’s Civil Defense authorities said.
The blaze broke out in the intensive care department of Jazan Hospital around midnight, Major Yahya al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Civil Defense in Jazan, said.
Health Ministry spokesman Faisal Al-Zahrani said that 84 people were hospitalized, including eight patients from the hospital’s intensive care unit. The others were treated and discharged.
A committee of inquiry has been set up on the orders of Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Nasser to determine the cause of the tragedy.
