By Suleiman al-Qubaisi & Mustafa Saadi

BAGHDAD (AA): Five people, including a police chief, were killed in a series of attacks by Daesh terrorists in Iraq on Monday.

Daesh terrorists launched two offensives in eastern and western Ramadi, but the attacks were repelled by army forces, military officer Walid al-Duleimi told Anadolu Agency.

“Three soldiers were killed and nine others were injured in the attacks,” he said.

Commander of Anbar Operations Ismail al-Mahlawi, for his part, told Anadolu Agency that Daesh terrorists had sustained “human and material losses” in the attacks.

He confirmed casualties among army forces in the attacks, but declined to give further details.

In another development, a senior police chief and his bodyguard were killed in a car bombing in Baquba, 50 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.

An explosive charge went off targeting the car of the Diyala police chief in southern Baquba, Sadeq al-Husseini, head of the Diyala security committee, told Anadolu Agency.

Daesh has seized vast swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq since 2014.
