By Shadi Khan Saif

KABUL, Afghanistan (AA): Twelve people, including 11 policemen and a woman, were killed in two separate attacks in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, officials confirmed.

Taliban gunmen stormed military posts in Lashkargah, provincial capital of Helmand province, late on Saturday killing 11 personnel of the Afghan National Police (ANP), said the provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat.

Zabihullah Mujahed, the Taliban spokesman, claimed in a message on social media that 16 policemen have been killed in the attack.

Separately, a woman was killed and five others injured in Kandahar province in a suspected suicide attack targeting a convoy of foreign troops.

Local broadcaster 1TV reported a car packed with explosives rammed into the convoy passing through Shor Andam area. No security personnel was injured in the attack.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Out of 1662 documented civilian deaths in Afghanistan in the first six months of 2017, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has attributed 327 deaths to pro-government forces.
