CAIRO (AA) – A security guard was killed and four foreign tourists were injured late Friday by two knife-wielding assailants who snuck into a hotel in Egypt’s resort city of Hurghada, according to local officials.
Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed told Anadolu Agency that three of the injured tourists were Swedish while the fourth was an Austrian national.
Up until this point, however, media reports — regarding both the death toll and the number of attackers — have been inconsistent.
In a statement issued late Friday, Egypt’s Interior Ministry said that security forces had killed one of the assailants and injured a second.
One day earlier, unidentified attackers targeted a bus carrying Israeli tourists outside a hotel in western Cairo with fireworks.
No casualties were reported as a result of the attack.
