The UK’s largest circulating Muslim newspaper, The Muslim News announced the shortlist for the 2014 Muslim News Awards for Excellence. The annual event, now in its 12th year, recognises the very best of Muslim contribution to British society.
Each year, an independent panel of judges with no connection to the newspaper, shortlist and then select winners in a range of award categories, from media to sports, community development to education.
This year’s nominees include athlete Mo Farah, kickboxing champion Ruqsana Begum and sculptural artist Halima Cassell. They join an illustrious list of both sung and unsung heroes, all of whom, through their nomination alone, become role models for British Muslims.

The Awards’ Dinner
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in central London on 31 March. Established as an annual event in 2000, The Muslim News Awards for Excellence has now become a major fixture in the British Muslim calendar. Previous guests of honour have included HRH The Prince of Wales and numerous senior members of the Government including Prime Minister Tony Blair, Chancellor Gordon Brown.
The Judging Panel
The Muslim News Awards for Excellence is the oldest of its kind in Britain. Unlike several imitations that have come and gone, The Muslim News Awards for Excellence is unique and special because of the dedication of an independent of judges who have no connection to the newspaper or its staff. Each year, a diverse panel from all walks of life come together to shortlist and select winners from a list of nominees, recommended by the many thousands of readers of The Muslim News.
