Tory PM to a Muslim event unique

30th May 2014

Sir, It seems you have made history to get Prime Minister, David Cameron, to The Muslim News Awards for Excellence event. No Conservative Prime Minister has ever been to such a large Muslim event.
I hope this is just a beginning of a dialogue between the Conservative Party and the Muslim community. Cameron needs to open up his party to Muslims.
General Elections are just around the corner. There are a large number of constituencies with marginal seats where Muslim votes matters. The Tory Party needs to cash in on this as every seat will count in the next elections.

Sir, The Awards event you organised showcasing British Muslim and non-Muslim contributions to the society is a very important event in the British Muslim calendar. I was surprised that the media did not report on such an important positive event.
I agree with your Editorial that the reason why the media is silent on positive stories when it comes to the Muslim community is because of Islamophobia in the media.

Sir, It is so heartening to see so many people awarded for excelling in their professions and contributing to our society. What is unique about The Muslim News Awards for Excellence is that you have such a wide diversity of winners which you don’t see in other events.
I do agree that we have a problem with our media who are only interested in demonising Muslims but don’t want to publish positive stories about the Muslim community which you have been highlighting for 12 years.
