Politics of humanity much needed

27th Feb 2015

Sir, Congratulations on your issue of 30th January. Prince El Hassan of Jordan and Chris Doyle of CAABU made important points. We need the “politics of humanity” to end the blockade of Gaza and the Occupation of the West Bank. Equally, the whole Mediterranean region cries out for investment to end youth unemployment.

This is severe in Greece, Italy and Spain and perhaps even worse in North Africa and through the Middle East. Young people face the choice of staying put in despair, or risking their lives on illegal boat crossings, or even going to fight in foreign wars.

Traditional crafts should be revived. Credit unions and cooperatives can help young people to gain greater skills and thus become productive. Self-help is needed to show bigger investors that the climate is right for major job-creation. Wealth from oil and gas should be reinvested so as to give people the human dignity they deserve.

Yours ,
Lord Hylton
House of Lords, London
