Muslim councillors

1st Jul 2016

Sir, A good number of councillors were elected across the country in May according to your report. But it isn’t enough. It does not reflect the population of the Muslim community. Less than 50% of the candidates were elected.

Majority of those elected were from Labour Party. Very few Conservatives were elected. It seems the Tories need to work hard at supporting Muslim candidates.

Thank you for compiling the list. It is hard work. It seems no one else is putting effort in such work. This is why I like The Muslim News. It provides news and information that even the academics and researchers do not.

Yours,
Zara Ahmed

Sir, Excellent work on the local election results highlighting election of Muslim councillors. I did not know we had so many Muslim candidates for the elections. It seems Muslims are taking active role in politics. It is such a good sign.

Yours,
Hanif Khan
