Sir, And so the open season against Muslims continues worldwide with another front being opened this time in at least two Buddhist dominated countries ie Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
The West has by and large ignored this unfortunate development either in terms of reporting of the incidents or any public statements condemning it. Muslim life is indeed cheap.
The Sri Lankans have just emerged from decades of bloodshed with the Tamils. Maybe things are a little too quiet on the Island since the guns went silent. I am not surprised that the Muslim world is unusually quiet about the Bashing Buddhists of both the countries I have mentioned as there are only so many hours in the day and with the long list of ‘pending problems’ that the Muslim world. I guess that we just don’t have the time to deal with this as well.
However, history has shown repeatedly that there is a limit to what Muslims will take and it is only a matter of time before the Sri Lankan Muslims decide to organise and fight back. Then the world will take note and suddenly the clock will start from when the first major retaliation by Muslims will wake up the Western press.
Rajapakse has already admonished Muslims, who I may add are the victims here, and ignored the violence that is being perpetrated by Buddhist monks and their adherents. Muslims represent around ten percent of the Sri Lankan population which is a large enough pool to form a resistance and we all know how that will turn out.
I hope for the sake of Sri Lanka that the green shoots of peace that took decades to sprout are not crushed ruthlessly by the Sri Lankan Government blindly marching themselves into another insurgency this time against Muslims.
At least I know what to say the next time someone cites Buddhism and Buddhists as an example of a ‘peaceful religion.’
