An Islamophobe ran into a petrol station in Lancashire and threw bacon at the Muslim attendant.

The man wrapped his face in a green scarf before ambushing the shocked worker, who was alone at the Pemberton Service Station in Ormskirk Road, Wigan.

Police are treating the attack at 4.30am on November 25 as racist and said it was “utterly abhorrent”.

The attendant was alone at the time.

“Because of the connotations attached to the meat and the fact it was deliberately thrown at a Asian man, we are treating this as a racially motivated crime” said a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police.

He told The Muslim News, “To target someone in this way, simply because of their religion or race, is utterly abhorrent and the offender should be ashamed of themselves.”

“This is not a prank, this is not funny or a laugh, it is a very serious and cowardly thing to do and we need to trace him.”

The offender was disguised with a snood neck scarf – leading police to fear it was a well-planned attack.

The man was described as white and 5ft 8in with a medium build and short dark hair.

He was wearing a bright green and black chequered snood covering his face and head, a black jacket with two white stripes, baggy light blue jeans and dark trainers with white laces and a white rim around the bottom.

It is thought no words were exchanged and the man fled the shop on foot.
