The Muslim News Awards for Excellence 2015: Guests respond

22nd May 2015

Some of the many comments we received from guests at The Muslim News Awards for Excellence gala evening held on March 31.

I enjoyed networking, meeting new people, being recognised and welcomed by UK Muslim community, which is a true value and asset for me being a Russian convert. I really enjoyed every part of it. I also wanted to say huge thank you to the board of judges for selecting me as a shortlisted candidate. For a Russian person like myself having embraced Islam and now working in the Islamic field, I feel highly appreciated, welcomed and valued by the community for what I do. Maryam Golubeva, Artist, Maryam Golubeva Art

I so much enjoyed the awards. It was very useful for networking. Dr Roland Riem, Vice-Dean and Canon Chancellor, Winchester Cathedral

Thank you for a wonderful night to celebrate the importance and work the Muslim community do. It was a truly inspiring evening so also was the atmosphere. The awards and the small brief of the person winning the award was also very good to give us insight into what they did. Abdin Ahmed, Data Centre Senior Technical Support Analyst, Dentons UKMEA LLP

It was one of the most enjoyable events. It brings together people from different parts of the UK, with different backgrounds of faith and ethnicity. It is the occasion to not only know of Muslim achievements in this country but also to make friends and bridges across cultural and religious differences. Thank you and the Muslim News for bringing the Muslim’s contribution into focus and bridging the gap between the Muslim community and other communities in the UK. Having a Rabbi, Danny Rich, as one of the judges reflects the MN’s openness to other faith and its work toward community harmony across the land. Dr Abdul-Rahim Hassan, Journalist

It was an amazing evening. I very much liked the Domains you had chosen it reflects high intellect of individuals who took part in formulating the function. The gathering had very good mix of all educated Muslims. Ahsan Zafar Zaidi, Consultant General Surgeon, St Helier Hospital

The event brought me into contact with many people who can help or who we can work with for the good of everyone. I was very inspired by the award winners and I will be in touch with some of them. It was a great event and I hope you are able to continue it into the future. It would be good to try to get a higher profile in the general public for some of the work that the award winners are doing as they could do a lot to change perceptions and attitudes in the country. Alice Memminger, Chief Executive, UpRising

Thank you very much for a most wonderful evening, which I will remember for a long time to come. It was a pleasure to be there for many different reasons. I felt that a lot of care and thought had gone into the preparation. I felt immediately very welcome and at ease although I had never been to this event before. The couple comparing the evening did so extremely well, wittily and charmingly. The pacing was excellent, never dull and I thought it was a lovely touch to serve a starter before the award ceremony so people weren’t distracted by their rumbling stomachs. I was very impressed and also very moved to hear so many stories of people’s efforts to make the world a better place. I felt very happy on my way home. Great Teamwork. Dr Almuth Tebbenhoff, Sculptor

Many thanks for hosting a fantastic event. I look forward to continuing to being a part of this amazing community. The range of awards, especially listening to the profiles of the younger winners were exceptionally inspiration and l think we should have more young people recognised in the community as they do work incredibly hard in their own families – Isha in particular stood out as an inspiring young girl and her story touched everyone’s heart. A very worthy winner. Hajera Memon, MD, Shade7 Publishing

I thoroughly enjoyed the Awards and thought the event was a great success. This project is an inspiration and encourages and motivates people around Britain to demonstrate the beauty of Islam in their actions and service to their communities. Congratulations on such an excellent and prestigious event, Masha Allah, representing the great Muslim achievements in this country. You are doing a fantastic job in promoting a positive and encouraging image of Islam and Muslims in the UK and beyond, and inspiring the next generation of Muslim leaders. My only recommendation would be to keep up the wonderful work and great efforts! May Allah reward you all immensely. Dr Sheikh Ramzy, Director, Oxford Islamic Information Centre

I enjoyed my second ceremony even more than the first I think especially because of my most interesting neighbours I had some truly fascinating conversations that evening. I never cease to rejoice and take encouragement from the degree of agreement on so very many issues that I find with people of such different traditions. I do hope we can over time develop some of these relationships and through them maybe even develop further the links between your great faith and mine including taking joint initiatives on matters in our country that concern all of us. I loved the atmosphere in the beautiful “ballroom” and found myself getting caught up with the excitement so evident amongst the award winners. I thought the evening was very well organised.. I felt very privileged to be there. Sir Jonathan Portal BT FCA, Member & Friend, Winchester Cathedral
