London, (Interpal Press Release):
On Saturday June 28, Interpal will launch its Ramadan Campaign for 2014. This year, as Interpal marks its 20th anniversary of helping Palestinians in need, the situation on the ground is as dire as it has ever been.
Over 80% of people in Gaza are reliant on aid to meet their basic food needs, whilst there are over 400,000 Palestinian refugees trapped in the conflict in Syria and vulnerable to starvation and disease. High unemployment is further impoverishing whole families which then puts a huge strain on emotional and mental wellbeing. Within the refugee camps, socioeconomic and sanitary conditions are extremely poor. Adequate nourishment and safe drinking water are luxuries and electricity is often cut, making life even more difficult for those already struggling.
Last Ramadan, with the generous support of donors, we were able to feed the fasting and provide urgent Financial Aid, Water Aid and Medical Aid to 10,000 vulnerable Palestinian families in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. For example, we supported Fathea, a widow living in Khan Younis Refugee Camp and raising 4 children, by delivering a food parcel to her, to ensure that the whole family will have food for the month of Ramadan:
“Thank you so much for this help. I had nothing to provide for my children on the first day of Ramadan except old bread and that is how we used to survive.” – Fathea
This year there is an ever increasing need to raise funds for Palestinian refugees who face unimaginable difficulties every day. By donating your Zakah through Interpal now, you will allow us to support over 15,000 families suffering from deprivation and poverty in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. This
We will be taking part in mosque collections, radio appeals and other activities. We need your involvement and your generosity will be an essential lifeline of support to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. During this Holy Month, please help us do more.
