22nd Feb 2014

BUNER, (The News): Local leader of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Adalat Khan was killed along with his companion in a remote-controlled bomb blast in Buner district on Saturday, Geo News reported.

According to DIG Malakand Abdullah Khan, the incident took place in Buner district when Adalat Khan was on his way to a local court in Dagar the remote-controlled bomb hit his vehicle killing him along with his associate.

“Adalat Khan and his associates have been killed. Three others in the car were critically injured,” a senior police official told.

The injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but a local intelligence official told that Khan had supported an Anti-Taliban village militia in 2009.

The head of that militia was later killed in a suicide attack in November 2012.

Peace talks between the Taliban and the government, announced on January 29, stalled this week due to a recent surge in insurgent attacks and a claim by a Taliban faction on Sunday that it had killed 23 kidnapped soldiers.

Government mediators has set a ceasefire as a precondition for another round of talks but Shahidullah Shahid, a spokesman for Pakistani Taliban on Friday blamed Islamabad for the deadlock and asked the state to declare a ceasefire first.
