18th Jan 2014

KARACHI, (The News): Demonstrators gathered on University Road and protested against the targeted killing of Mufti Usman Yar, Secretary General of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Samiul Haq Group on Saturday morning, Geo News reported.

The religious leader, Mufti Usman Yar along with two others was killed when unknown armed men opened fire on his car on Shahra-e-Faisal on Friday night.

The angry protesters pelted stones on the vehicles on University Road and set tyres on fire that blocked the main artery.

Police informed that traders closed their shops and businesses near Safari Park due to aerial firing by the miscreants. Panic gripped the area over the tense situation and commotion.

On the other hand, infuriated crowd blocked the road for traffic in Sohrab Goth as well.

It is pertinent to mention here that six people were gunned down within short span of one hour in two separate incidents on Friday.

In the first incident of firing, three people including Mufti Usman Yar were killed on Shahra-e-Faisal while in another, unknown gunmen shot dead three staffers of a private TV news channel. Sources said the Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) vehicle came under attack in Nazimabad.

The shooters fled after riddling the van with bullets.

The attack left technician, Waqas, driver, Khalid, cameraman, Mehtab, and a guard dead.
