Star Online:  A launch capsized with 250 passengers in Padma river in Lauhajang upazila of Munshiganj due to heavy current this morning.

Local people rescued 44 passengers from the river till 1:00pm when the report was filed.

Pinak-6 sank in the middle of Padma when it was going to Mawa from Kawrakandi terminal around 11:00am, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Lauhajang Police Station.

The capsize took place as the river has become rough due to stormy weather, the OC said.

Rescue vessel MV Rustam has already started from Narayanganj to conduct salvage operation.

Meanwhile, divers from Fire Brigade and Civil Defence and Bangladesh Navy are expected to join the rescue operation soon.
