JERUSALEM, Palestine (AA): A Palestinian man was killed in the southern West Bank on Sunday evening after allegedly wounding three Israeli police officers, according to Israel’s Channel 2.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a written statement that the man was shot after he attempted to run over three Israeli soldiers and left them “slightly wounded”.
The Palestinian man “might have died,” the statement said.
The incident took place near Gush Etzion settlement block, the region of Beit Amr in the West Bank, it added.
The Palestinian has been identified as Khaled Ahmad Ekhlayyel, 23, from Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron.
They added that the soldiers fired many live rounds at the Palestinian and his car, causing him to crash into a wall.
khaleds_carPalestinian medics rushed to the scene, but the soldiers prevented them from approaching the Palestinian to provide him with the needed medical help, and he bled to death.
Israeli daily Haaretz said three Border Policemen were mildly injured in the incident and were moved to a hospital in Jerusalem.
On Saturday evening, the soldiers shot and seriously injured a young Palestinian man, near Ein Yabroud town, east of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, after he reportedly attempted to “ram Israeli soldiers with his car, then tried to stab them.”
According to Palestinian figures, more than 240 Palestinians have been killed since an uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence began in October of 2015.
Israel, for its part, says 42 Israelis were killed by Palestinians over the same period.
