Israeli Army spokesman Peter Lerner said the Palestinian child had allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli soldier near Gilboa (al-Jalama) crossing.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency the Israeli army shot 16-year-old Mohammed Zakarneh five times and left him to bleed for more than 30 minutes until he died. Eyewitnesses also said the Israeli army barred Palestinian ambulance crews from rescuing him.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with U.S Secretary General John Kerry on Saturday in the Jordanian capital Amman with the goal of ending weeks of violence in the region.
According to Palestinian Health Ministry figures, Saturday’s killing brings the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces since the start of October to 57, including 12 children and one woman.
