JERUSALEM (AA): At least 27 Palestinians have been detained for alleged “illegal activity” in overnight raids carried out by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli military announced Monday.
According to an Israeli military spokesperson, 10 of the 27 were picked up in the town of Dura, located roughly 10 kilometers southwest of the city of Hebron (Al-Khalil), in connection with the killing last month of Israeli settler Rabbi Michael Mark.
The remaining 17 were detained in various other locations throughout the occupied territory.
Last week, Israeli forces used anti-tank missiles to destroy a house in the town of Surif near Hebron.
The attack killed one Palestinian — Mohamed Faqih, 27, who had been suspected by the Israeli authorities of involvement in the settler’s death — and the arrest of three others.
Several relatives of Faqih were among those detained in Dura late last night on suspicion of having aiding him in last month’s drive-by shooting near Hebron that killed Mark and injured his wife and children, according to Palestinian news agency Ma’an.
In a related development Monday, the Israeli military also said it had arrested Mahayub Borhan Rashad Knaza, who it described as a “major weapons dealer” and a member of the Palestinian security services.
