JERUSALEM (AA) – Two Palestinians were killed after allegedly stabbing an Israeli soldier, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The Israeli military said two males — Mohammad Sabana, 17, and Nour al-Din Sabana, 23 — were shot after stabbing and wounding a soldier at a checkpoint in Huwwara, south of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
Another soldier was injured by gunfire directed at the Palestinians.
Sunday’s attack was the third in 10 days at the Huwwara checkpoint and followed another alleged attempted attack at Jerusalem’s central bus station on Sunday, in which the Palestinian suspect was arrested.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, 141 Palestinians have been killed since near-daily attacks and clashes began in October.
During the same period, 24 Israelis and foreigners have been killed in the same period.
Many observers attribute the recent uptick in violence to a July arson attack in the West Bank by suspected Jewish settlers that killed an 18-month-old Palestinian child and his parents.
