Palestine: Israel arrests 5 Hamas members in West Bank
JERUSALEM, (Xinhua): Israel’s security forces arrested five Hamas members in the West Bank city of Hebron on Wednesday, local media reported.
Among the arrested is Mohammed Natsha, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, who was recently released from Israeli custody without being charged, said the Palestinian news agency Ma’an.
In February, about two dozens of Hamas operatives, including three legislators, were arrested in a wave of predawn raids led by the Shin Bet security service in major Palestinian cities.
A senior Israeli army officer said then that additional “senior terrorist activists” would be arrested due to their involvement in a recent spike in public disorder and violent incidents in the West Bank.
Israel is concerned about Hamas’ increasing efforts to resurrect its military infrastructure in the West Bank. A number of local cells recruited and financed by the Islamic group based in Gaza to attack Israeli targets were arrested in recent months.
