Syria: Russian airstrikes kill 25 civilians in Aleppo

By Halit Suleyman

ALEPPO,  (AA): Twenty-five civilians were killed and another 60 injured Thursday when Russian warplanes struck six districts in Aleppo northern city, Syrian Civil Defense said.

Mohamed Yehia, official of Syrian Civil Defense in the city, told Anadolu Agency that Russian warplanes attacked six districts – including al-Hallok and al-Fardos – controlled by the Syrian opposition.

Civil Defense teams struggled to search for survivors under the debris of destroyed buildings in the town.

More than 1,730 civilians have been killed since Russia launched airstrikes against opposition forces in Syria in September, according to a report by Syria’s main opposition bloc, the Syrian National Coalition (SNC).

Syria has remained locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the regime of President Bashar al-Assad cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, more than 250,000 people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced, according to figures released by the UN.
