17th Nov 2013

KIRKUK, (Xinhua): A series of bomb attacks, including two suicide bombings, struck the city of Tuz-Khurmato in northern Iraq on Sunday, killing at least three people and wounding dozens of others, a local police source told Xinhua.

The attacks occurred before noon when two suicide bombs and nine roadside bombs ripped through Tuz-Khurmato, some 200 km north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the source said.

“There is no immediate reports about the exact numbers of casualties as the source cited initial reports about the attacks.

The ethnically mixed city of Tuz-Khurmato is part of the disputed area claimed by the Kurds and both the Arabs and the Turkomans. The Kurds want to incorporate the area on the edge of their Kurdistan region.

Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, almost 7, 000 Iraqis were killed and over 16,000 others injured from January to October this year.
