Iraq: 6 killed, 29 wounded in Baghdad bomb attacks

30th May 2013

Baghdad, (Xinhua): At least six people were killed and 29 wounded in car bomb and roadside bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.

Four people were killed and 12 wounded when a car bomb ripped through al-Bunoug district in the northeastern part of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Another car went off at a thoroughfare in Baghdad’s southern district of Karrada, killing two people and wounding eight others, the source said.

Also on Thursday morning, two roadside bombs exploded at Saidiyah and Baladiyat districts in southern and eastern Baghdad respectively, wounding a total of nine people, the source added.

The bombings are part of almost daily waves of massive bomb attacks in Baghdad and some Iraqi cities that killed and wounded hundreds of people.

On Wednesday, bombings and clashes in the country killed at least 26 people and wounded some 80 others.

Violence and sporadic bomb attacks are still common in Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease in violence since its peak in 2006 and 2007, when the country was engulfed in sectarian killings.
