Afghanistan: Blast hits eastern Afghan town, wounds 19

MEHTARLAM, (Xinhua): A powerful blast hit eastern Afghan town of Mehterlam, the capital of Laghman province 90 km east of Kabul on Saturday, wounding 19 people, with some in critical condition, spokesman for provincial administration said.

“It was around 03:00 p.m. local time when a blast rocked Mehtarlam town, injuring 19 civilians including a women,” Sarhadi Zawak told Xinhua.

“Apparently the bomb was planted on a vehicle of traffic police, and exploded in Asmat Square of Mehterlam town, injuring civilians, ” he added.

The vehicle of the traffic police, which was on routine duty when the blast happened, was badly damaged.

He blamed the attack on the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban outfit. But the armed group is yet to make comment.
