KABUL (AA & AP): At least 10 people were killed and three others were wounded on Wednesday morning after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives on the outskirts of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, security officials said. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The claim came from Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, in an email sent to the media.
The bomber reportedly targeted a vehicle carrying court employees traveling to Wardak province, located 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of Kabul.
The bomber, who was on foot, detonated his explosives vest as he walked by the vehicle in the western part of the city, said Najib Danish, the Interior Ministry’s deputy spokesman,
“The victims included civilians and appellate court staff,” Deputy Interior Minister Najibullah Danish said.
This is the first suicide attack by the Taliban after its leader Mullah Mansoor was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan last week.
The last major attack in Kabul was on April 19, when a massive bomb killed 64 people and wounded hundreds. The Taliban also claimed that bombing.
