KIEV, (Xinhua): At least seven people were killed and nine others injured when a blast ripped through a coal mine in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region on Monday night, authorities reported Tuesday.
The explosion took place 815 meters below the surface at the Severnaya mine in Makeevka town when a large amount of methane gas was ignited, said the State Service for Emergencies.
Seven people were found dead at the scene, while nine injured workers were taken to local hospitals with burns, the authorities added.
Operations at the mine have been suspended, and an investigation is under way.
