US: Man shot dead at Houston shopping center

HOUSTON, (Xinhua): A man was gunned down by an unknown assailant at a strip shopping center in the U.S. city of Houston Tuesday afternoon, local media reported.

The man was shot by gunfire shortly before 5 p.m. local time in the parking lot of a shopping center in southwest Houston, the Houston Chronicle newspaper said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not been officially confirmed.

TV footage showed a sheet covering the body of a man lying beside a car with its back windshield shot out.

No suspect has yet been identified, but a brown car was seen fleeing the scene just after the shooting.

Police are still at the scene questioning people who might have witnessed the shooting. The motive for the fatal attack remains under investigation.
