TRIPOLI, (Xinhua): Explosion at ammunition depot killed 10 people and injured 15 in the Libyan Southern District of Brak Wadi Shati on Thursday, as military governor of the district, Brigadier Mohamed Al Dahabyi, told Xinhua.

Al Dahabyi said “At least ten people were killed and 15 injured as a result of explosion on Thursday evening in an explosion in ammunition and weapons’ warehouse in the District of Brak Wadi Shati.”

Al Dahabyi explained that “an unknown group tried to infringe warehouse causing this unfortunate incident.” On Saturday gunmen stormed the air base in district of Brak Wadi Shati and looted ammunition storage.

District of Brak Wadi Shati is located 60 km south of the city of Sabha, the capital of the Libyan province of Fezzan.

The local authorities in the south of Libya struggle to take control over the vast geographic area mainly infiltrated by smugglers trafficking illegal migrants as well as drugs and weapons.

The Libyan interim government rolled out a wide plan for securing the borders. The Europe Union Border Assistance Mission ( EUBAM) in Libya, actually assigned to train the Libyan border forces, are yet to come to the South.
